There's a great article on Real Princess Diaries about how to prepare yourself for anal activities (specifically if you've never done it before). Thanks goodness she didn't mention douching.

Although, there is a link to a piece on enemas which does speak about the proper way to use them.

Preparing for Your First Anal Sex

A good article. In the part "First Steps" she talks about a lot of things that you and your love could do together! The lubing and prepping. I never did anything by myself. He did the "prepping" in terms of getting me used to "something in there" Plugs didn't work for us, I'd just clamp shut. A lot of people like them, I don't. He just used his fingers and hand, similarly to how he "prepped" me for a couple of weeks before we ever had intercourse (I was a virgin in that way, too, before I met him.)

She also didn't mention my favorite way to get ready! Make sure the "receiver" has an orgasm! Nothing relaxes you like that, and things just open up!  Also, using a dil or vibrator in the vagina, so the woman (if you are having anal sex with a woman) feels the familiar sensation of vaginal penetration is helpful.

Other than that, the article was good.

I didn't mention that because the vast majority of women (especially younger women, for whom the article was originally written) don't react as well when there's someone else with them as they learn how to do this.  Nervousness and anxiety often inhibit their ability to relax to the point where they feel wholly comfortable and not tense up, and having another person there (who, in some case, they may not fully trust to "go there" yet) exacerbates that.  I prefer they learn on their own where they can be as relaxed as possible and not be embarrassed if something comes out or doesn't work.

Having said that, of course, I am all for encouraging people to try things together.  And by all means feel free to make this point on the blog itself if you'd like - I do agree that it would work for a select group of people.

Thanks for replying, Alexa!

I wasn't aware it was more geared towards "younger" readers.

A lot of us who...eh ehm.....aren't in our 20s anymore have only learned how to enjoy anal sex in the last few years. (When we were young, in the 70s, 80s, it just was not that common. Even in porn. The first time I saw an anal scene (Seka, with two dudes, watching it with My Man in a cheap motel room) I was almost shocked, "He he he he put it in.....there?" (OK, I was young and a little naive.)

There are also a lot of people in their 30s, 40s, 50s and beyond to whom anal is "new" (look at all the "how can I get my wife to try anal?" or "how can I talk my man to try pegging?" posts from people in their 40 50s+) and we learned to have sex long before the internet. Basically, all we had was Penthousethe Playboy Adviser, and some porn. Not much there for the women back then, if we had questions.

I appreciate the article, as anal has become more mainstream, more people, young and a little more mature are learning to enjoy it.

I understand that some women may want to prep themselves. Just presenting the viewpoint of what worked for us, for both anal and (many many years ago) vaginal sex.

This is such a wonderful post, and should be read by everyone wanting to try anal sex. I wish I had known all this before! But I still learned a lot from it, especially about the best positions for me to be in control. This is really valuable info.

My husband always goes down on me before anal. Just before organism he gently inserts his finger into my butt ;D, the thrill of his tongue and finger action is unbelievable and I am ready for anything! Of course we use plenty of lube. After 5 years I have found that I can take most of his penis.
