I haven't seen the film, but I am intrigued by censorship of the human body. Although, I hear the Na'vi in Avatar aren't human. They are alien, so...

1) why the censorship?
2) why the breasts if they aren't placental mammals?
3) hence, why the nipples anyway - or why cover the non-nipple-needed area?

...and tons of other questions.

Ms. Naughty has seen it and delves into these questions a bit more. Check out her blog-post called Alien Nipples And “Adults Only” Hair Sex But be warned - if you haven't seen the movie and want to, this could be a spoiler.

hmmm i saw the movie and i didn't really pay attention to that. the only reason i think they would do that is because they want everybodys money. they know parents won't bring their kids, or some adults would be put off by it. this is america the home of the free but, you better not show this or say that. lol

I haven't seen the movie, but surprisingly, non placental mammals DO make milk. Non placental mammals include kangaroos, wallabies, platypus (platypi) and the North American Opossum. Kangaroos, wallabies and Opossums have nipples, but platypus do not, their babies come out of the eggs, and lick milk from the mother's chest, which is covered with milk making sweat like glands.

Just for the Record.
