When the economy falters a young womans thoughts turn to..prostitution? As Princess brought up, more and more women are turning to prostitution during our economic downturn. Thanks to massive lay-offs and shrinking job prospects, more so-called "normal girls" with college degrees and middle class backgrounds are turning to the sex trade than ever, whether it be stripping, phone sex, x-rated movies, or prostitution.

It's not hard to see the popularity (a girl can pull in $1000 in one weekend) but it does come with its trade-offs. While prostitution obviously more lucrative than fast food or temping sex work is still illegal in the USA so there's always the possibility of jail time. And, unlike the Netherlands, our sex workers aren't privy to insurance, mandatory STD testing and retirement plans.

What are your thoughts on sex work? Would you do it for the right price? Would you do it if it was legal? Or, are you morally against it? I would love to hear from the men too!

Reminds me of a story of a young woman who was being arraigned on a charge of prostitution. The judge asked her, "How do you plead?"
"Not guilty your honor," she said. Then she foolishly added, "I wouldn't fuck anybody for twenty bucks in this economy."
The judge gave her a stern look and asked, "Would you do 'em for a hundred."
"I'd have to think about that," she replied blushing.
"You're guilty," the judge declared. "You just hadn't negotiated a high enough price yet."
That was told to me by a very high priced call girl who claimed to get $500 for a quicky and $1,000 for an afternoon. It made me think, I'm in the wrong business.

Makes you wonder how the pay scale differs for male and female prostitutes.

I'm guessing it's the same as it is for porn stars. The girls get thousands of dollars for a scene and the boys get hundreds. It reminds me of a poster I had hanging in my garage for years of a two curious toddlers looking into into each other's diapers. The boy is quick to notice she doesn't have a penis and he says, "A ha, you don't have one of these."
And the girl little answers, "Yeah, but my mommy says with one of these I can have all of those I want."

Another sad fact of the eco, is that more unmarried woman are turning to having kids to collect welfare. I have had a chance to see this as I go to a diner that is across the street from a State welfare office, where they go for food stamps and other help.  3 out of 4 people going in there are female with at least one child and most have 2 or more all under the age of 4. I saw one young woman with what I would guess a one year old, and a new born sharing a carraige . I won't go into what race was the most common, but I did ask a few a couple of question when going to my car and what they said was that the not only get food stamps, but housing allowance, and medical care for each child. I asked where the fathers where and they said that most were either living with one of the kids fathers and some said that they didn't know for sure who the father was but that didn't matter to the State. Talk about the makings for  a Jerry Springer show.
Just a ole hippy at heart, been around the block more that I care to think about. Lived a full life and looking to add to it. Memories are wonderful but making them is much more fun.

I'm sure the scale differs greatly enough between women--depending on location, brothel (at least in Nevada), age, etc.

Prostitution sounds kinda ideal in your head, if you like sex, but I'm sure the reality is far from the fantasy for many women.
