Blow-job, giving head, going down, polishing the knob...we know the terms, but do we know the risks? I've read a lot of erotica that starts with a beautiful blow-job yet only after that does the couple reach for a condom to have vaginal sex. Are they not worried about the transmittal of STIs during oral sex?

Sex is risky, period. There is the risk of pregnancy and the chance of passing infections or diseases along. Using a condom is the most effective way to avoid either one. If you're in a monogamous and long-term relationship, use your own judgement. But you still must take responsibility and speak up if you think you may have an STI or yeast infection.

Condoms don't taste too good, but there are flavored lubricants on the market which would help mask the plastic taste. You could even get flavored condoms specifically for a blow-job (I wouldn't use them for vaginal sex though. Get non-flavored condoms for sex) You can even make putting the condom on him part of the fun. Gently set it on your lips (in O shape) in front of your teeth (tip facing in) and roll it on by pressing the tip onto his tip, then let your lips glide it down his shaft. Practice makes perfect - and wouldn't he like to be your guinea pig?

Point is, you can transmit STIs via a blow-job (or a lick-job on a chick - dental dams), so play it safe and cover up. Make it fun, tasty and above all, honest.

Has anyone ever calculated what the chances are of transferring diseases in an exclusive sexual relationship. That was the first thing I appreciated after having a vasectomy and being married, no more rubbers. Hank

If you are worried about disease then this doesn't seem like a good idea to put the condom on using your mouth.

Good point there studley - however, it can be done safely! Practice on a banana - see if you can do it without anything touching him but the condom. (Well, not you, sir, but the ladies)

FYI folks: if you want to put a condom on with your mouth there's a gal on Cherry TV who shows ladies how to do it in a workshop on blowjobs. They use dildos, not bananas, but it's about the first thing she teaches in her work shop and the rest of her class is good too. Take a look. Hank
